Dragon Boat racing is a competitive sport, but the real winners are the beneficiaries of the event. We dedicate the proceeds of the race and festival to non-profit programs and/or services which help to improve the quality of life for children and youth.
We encourage each paddler to set a minimum fundraising goal of $166.00. Pledges are raised in the same way as a 5K run, walkathon or other charity race. You may dedicate all or a portion of your pledges to the beneficiaries chosen by the Dragon Boat Race and Festival Board, (click here to see this year’s beneficiaries), or you may choose to dedicate the proceeds you raise to your favorite charity that benefits children. The choice is yours!! We appreciate your participation and your heart for children!!

In support of its mission to improve the quality of life and future of children and youth in the region, Lake Lure Dragon Boat Racing, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public organization, has selected the following to receive the net income from the May 21, 2011 dragon boat race and festival in Lake Lure, NC.
1. Camp Lurecrest
Camp Lurecrest is a non-denominational summer camp for children ages 8 to 17. For sixty years, Camp Lurecrest has combined the outdoor environment, memorable activities, strong relationships, and established an atmosphere in which campers encounter God’s love for them in Christ Jesus. Almost 1,000 children attend the camp in Lake Lure every summer. Provisions are made at a specific time during the summer through generous donations, to allow children without the financial means, to experience this loving environment at no charge.

2. Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach
Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach was founded in 2001, is an incorporated, non-profit social service agency serving residents in the Hickory Nut Gorge Community which includes certain areas in the following counties: Rutherford, Polk, Henderson and Buncombe. HNGO works to eliminate poverty by providing help and giving hope to families. Outreach Programs help provide basic needs such as food, utilities, rent, transportation, housing, prescriptions, scholarships, clothing, gas money, short term emergencies, heating. and counseling.
